Crime dramas that I think may appeal to a family audience are:

Pushing daisies- A pie-maker, with the power to bring dead people back to life, solves murder mysteries with his alive-again childhood sweetheart, a cynical private investigator, and a lovesick waitress.

Veronica mars- After her best friend is murdered and her father is removed as county sheriff, Veronica Mars dedicates her life to cracking the toughest mysteries in the affluent town of Neptune.

The name of my new tv crime drama would be called "Sue Lin"

25 year old Sue Lin is a a Lawyer by day and a Private detective by night, but she has a dark past involving the Chinese Mafia, and must face her fears and go on a journey with her flat mate Johnathan Bay to find them once again to avenge her mothers death. But the things she will discover will change her life forever.
"Sue Lin" will be the new hard-hitting action packed crime drama to be aired on BBC3 post watershed. It is aimed at teenage plus audiences of both genders  and will appeal to this audience because it will have lots of plot twist and turns and action sequences which will appeal to teenage boys and Sue Lin's flatmate Jonathan will be very good looking which will appeal to teenage girls and so will some of the story lines.

my crime drama

The name of my new tv crime drama would be called "It's a dogs life".

 The sub genre would be buddy cops (a man and his dog). It would also have a hint of comedy.


 The characters would include, Charlie Hanley one of the main protagonists who works as a freelance spy he is in his mid thirties and is close to a midlife crisis: he likes reading, spying and long romantic walks, the other main protagonist would be Charlie's dog Lexi who goes on every mission with him and helps to track down evil and solve crime- Lexi was a 22 year old human when she was turned into a dog by an evil witch who wanted her to suffer because Lexi didn't want to marry the witches son , she loves Charlie and during the programme we often hear her thoughts towards him-she thinks that if she were still human she might have a chance with him. Lexi knows that she can never let anyone know the truth because they wouldn't believe her- after all no one believes in witches, do they? There is one main villain that runs throughout the season. He is called

The programme would be for the whole family and would be animated, it would be for the whole family because the children would like the dog element and some of the situations/jokes, and the older members of the family would enjoy it as there would be jokes and references that the children may not understand that the adults will. 


The time slot would be at round 7:00pm on E4. Each episode would be 45minutes long. 


The first episode would introduce the main characters and what their personalities are like and give us an insight into Charlie's job and his relationship with Lexi. We will also see a flashback of what happened to Lexi and what she was like when she was human. The first episode will also introduce the main super-villain called "The crimson darkness" who is Charlie's main nemesis, he is a deranged madman with delusions of grandeur and a machine gun, throughout the series we see snippets of him and Charlie and Lexi nearly get him a few times but always fail. There will also be other villains throughout that Charlie and Lexi capture with ease.

American vs British

There are quite a few differances between American and British crime drama:
For example- In American crime drama's everything is made more dramatic and the crimes are alot more serious and dramatic. We also see alot more serial killers in American crime dramas then British ones.
Also in American crime dramas it is definatley more usual for every single character to be good looking, as thats what they think that American audiences look for whereas in  British crime drama there are usually a  few good looking characters  but also some average/ugly characters because they think that British audiences concentrate on the content of the programme and the characters personality more than what they look like.

Crime drama

Dexter:

Narrative: The overall theme is about a serial killer that only kills other killers and works for the miami metro policeforce.
The content consists of the main character Dexter going through his every day life being a blood analyst for the miami metro and then at night he tracks down killers that havent been charged due to lack of evidence and kills them.
The structure is usually Dexter going into work helpng to solve crime and then going home to his family (which changes throughout the different seasons) for a couple of hours and then when they are in bed going and hunting down people who have literaly got away with murder.

Iconography: There are lots of props used in dexter suchas guns, badges,knives, childrens toys, a boat, and many more.
The costumes vary throughout each episode as the police force the protagonist works at has no uniform so it is mainly just smart wear suchas suits and shirts. Although Dexter the protagonist has a uniform that he wears when he goes out into the night, he wears a certain green top that is form fitting and plain he also wears leather gloves and sometimes he wears an apron so that he leaves no trace.

Characters: The protagonist in this particular programme is a strange one, he is the protagonist because the way the programme is made it endears you to this character who works with the crime lab to help solve cases, but he also sees it as his duty to track down killers who were never charged and permanantly delte them from existance. His name is Dexter and he is in his thirties, the show explains that the reason he kills people is because when he was a toddler he watched his mum be brutally murdered and sat in a pool of her blood for hours before he was found.
There are two types of victim in dexter, there are the victims who are murdered by the villains and then there are the actual villains who are killed by dexter. It is all very confusing.
The villains are usually serial killers that the police cant charge for the murders because of lack of evidence but everyone knows it was them. sometimes the police get them but most of the time Dexter does. There are sometimes some other villains that dexter chases famous serial killers who have never been identified and kills them.
The helpers in Dexter are the cops Dexter works with, especially his sister Debbie who is a detective and is always there for Dexter. Sometimes the helpers in the programme hinder Dexter because he prefers to kill the killers than for them to be arrested. Another helper to Dexter is his dead adoptive dad who gives him guidance and appears in times of trouble (Dexters imagination). His dad knew about Dexters problem of needing to release by killing and he gave him a set of rules to follow and the most important was to never kill anybody innocent.








Setting: The main  setting is in the miami metro police station, and in particular a section where all the detectives desks are situated because they all confer and chat there. Another room that is used alot is the room where they have a big whiteboard with thier current case on it and have a briefing and figure out the plan of action. Another important room is  Dexter's room in the station where he analysis the blood found at crime scenes and researches his  next victim. The last important place is Dexters flat where he plans alot and talks to his "dad" alot.
It is set in Miami in the city and is not very rural.
